Ruth Hogan-Poulsen scores another Regional Championship
Local dressage trainer takes home high score in
four days of championship competition
Sep 21,
2005, Saugerties, NY – Ruth Hogan-Poulsen returned home to Plainfield, VT, this
week from the 2005 US Dressage Federation Region 8 Dressage Championship with
another championship ribbon by her side.
With her elegant black mare, Dream Lady,
Hogan-Poulsen scored a decisive victory in the musical freestyle competition,
earning the Region 8 First Level Freestyle Championship. Her winning combined
score of 78% from the three judges included an 85.6% individual score from
Olympic judge Linda Zang (O), and a perfect “10” for the artistic rating on
choice and interpretation of music.
“One of the nicest freestyles I’ve ever seen,”
commented judge Linda Zang of the upbeat violin-themed performance. This ride
earned the highest score during the four days of competition.
In addition to her freestyle win, Hogan-Poulsen and Dream Lady also earned a
third place with a 69.53% in the Open First Level Championship.
“She really enjoys the showring, especially when
the music is playing,” said Hogan-Poulsen.
Dream Lady will get a short break, and then begin
training for the next level of competition during the Florida winter season.
“I enjoy the entire process of choreographing the
movements, selecting and then arranging the music, and then pulling everything
together in the show ring. I feel so lucky to have been able to bring my
background in music together with my dressage business, and to help other riders
with my musical freestyle design business.”
A professional
International-level rider, trainer, and instructor, Ruth Hogan-Poulsen has
previously earned regional awards in 2004, 2001, and 1998. Long-listed by the
US Equestrian Team, she has also been awarded the USDF Gold Medal and USDF
Freestyle Gold Bar for her national achievements at the highest levels of the
sport. She spends summers at her own East Hill Farm in Plainfield, Vermont.
